Today I am going to show you how to install the RADIUSdesk VM on VMWare workstation on windows 8. In this series will be going to discover different feature of the RADIUSdesk. This is free Open Source FreeRadius web interface developed by dvdwaltpetravdw.

  • Login pages applet for central hotspot login page management.
  • Support Social Login (Facebook, Google+ etc) integration for CoovaChilli and MikroTik.
  • BYOD device manager for any enterprise.
  • Rights management for Realm and Managers.
  • Extensive usage graphs for fine grained trend analysis and capacity planning.
  • i18n. Easy translations. Also supporting rtl languages
  • Advanced debug trace applet to allow real-time debug traces on FreeRADIUS by using Websocket.
  • MESHdesk applet that helps to set-up, manage and monitor Batman-adv Wireless mesh networks
    •  Google Map Integration to show actual position of Wireless Mesh Nodes

It can be downloaded from sourceforge. I will am going to show you the install VM ova file which has RADIUSdesk pre installed and config on UBUNTU 16.04 Server by the developer. I will show how to import it in your test environment and how to use it with different Radius Clients.

I assume that you are already familiar with basic how know of Windows 8 and VMWare workstation or VirtualBox. So lets get to work :)
    1. Goto sourceforge and download the RADIUSdesk VM.
    2. Unzip it if it is in the .tar format or leave as it is if .ova format
    3. Open VMWare Workstation and goto file -> open...
    4. Select and open the .ova or .ovf file of RADIUSdesk VM from the dialog box
    5. Wait for few minutes to complete the import
    6. Once import completes, setup the Network in VMWare, normally the first adopter is WAN port in RADIUSdesk VM, It is configured as DHCP client so make sure you setup this port on a DHCP to get IP.
    7. Power on the RADIUSdesk VM, the first boot takes a bit time, so be patient.
    8. Once you see the login prompt enter default login as username = system and password = admin
    9. Type "ifconfig" without quotes on command line to check your IP address on VM machine
    10. Now open your favorite browser and enter "YOUR_IP" or "YOUR_IP/rd" in address bar and press enter
    11. The default login for the web UI of RADIUSdesk is username = root and password = admin
    12. Waala .... we are done
